In my last post, I wrote about a trip I was very excited to take. Unfortunately, that trip had to be cancelled at the last minute. One of the things I have learned about life here in the jungle is that things can change in a moments notice, and you always need to be ready and willing for plans to change if they need to.

Bookbags, notebooks, and pens waiting to go to San Lorenzo
On Monday morning the 22nd of August, I woke up with great anticipation to travel up river and be able to take some school supplies to students in San Lorenzo. Shortly after I woke up though, news arrived that there was a strike that was blocking the road to the boat we were supposed to take. So, I quickly called some of the people I know here to find out if it would keep us from going on our trip that day. Not only was there a strike blocking the road to where we were planning on going, there was some unrest further into the jungle and some of the native tribes of Peru were blocking the very river we were planning on traveling that day. It quickly became apparent that we would not be able to go that day at least. But... maybe we could still go the next day. Happily, there was a group here working with the Arimborgo's from the US, Canada, and the UK and we were able to join in with them in traveling to Tamishacu that day to help translate. By the evening it seemed like everything had cleared up here in Iquitos, but the river was still questionable.
The next day, I woke up early and was praying about whether or not we should go even if it seemed like the river was opened to us. I guess the best way that I can describe it is that I quickly felt a peace about not going this time. Not only did I feel confident that there would be other opportunities to go out into the jungle, I was enjoying the time with the group that was here, and I felt confident that time spent helping the Arimborgo's and the group with what they were doing would be time well spent.
For the rest of the week, I worked with the group helping translate and am very glad that I did. It was a wonderful experience that I am grateful for. We went to Nauta and did prayer and evangelism there, we did the same under the bridge in Nanay, and I also got to translate the message for the Wednesday night Women's service. It was truly a wonderful time, and I'm glad I got to enjoy it!
Right now, the supplies that were purchased to take on our trip are still sitting in my room waiting to arrive where they are destined to go. We are still planning on sending them to San Lorenzo, but working on making sure they get there the right way at this point. Hopefully soon I will have pictures of those students receiving their supplies to share with you all!
Here are some of the pictures I took from the outings with "Light a Candle". :)
