Homeschooling and more!

This year I am back in Peru and working hard on moving forward with many plans to help different groups of people reach their educational goals.

The main thing I am doing every day at this point is homeschooling two missionary children that I live with. This has been a wonderful, but sometimes difficult task that I truly love. Both of them started school and spent several years in the educational system here in Iquitos before we started homeschooling last year. Since both of them have aspirations of pursuing upper learning in the US after they finish High School, their parents decided that it would be a really good idea for them to prepare for that by switching to homeschooling in English. Considering that all of their schooling before that was in Spanish, that was quite the adjustment last year. I am super proud of the progress that both of them have made, and plan on writing more blog posts about the process we have been going through. One of the things I am most excited about with homeschooling them is that it is giving me an opportunity to work on strategies and methods that I hope to start sharing with teachers here in Iquitos soon on how to improve the quality of learning the students are receiving.

The other thing I have been working on is helping different kinds of students meet their educational goals. In October last year, I had the wonderful opportunity to give out school supplies in a little village close to the City of Nauta. "HOPE for a Brighter Future - Peru" gave out materials to 80 students in elementary and high school. Next week I will write in more detail about that experience! There are currently several students right now that we are helping to get school supplies for the start of the new school year this week here in Peru.
