"It's a Teacher Thing"

The last day before Christmas break at school this year, I had a student walk up to me in the morning and hand me an apple. All she said was, "It's a teacher thing". Now that may not seem like much, but I have to say I was close to tears.
You see, I know that this student doesn't have much. It truly touched my heart to be thought of and given even such a simple Christmas gift even though I am just a substitute in the room for now. I do believe that it is truly the things 'from the heart' that touch us so deeply.
